AW Trends: The Boss Girl Look

One of the hottest trends predicted for this autumn/winter 2018 is Boss Girl Tweed.

Shaking off its reputation as being for country folk and kilts, tweed knitwear is back this winter with a renewed focus on texture, draping and traditional patterns such as checks, houndstooth and tartan.

Tactile tweeds are an unexpected addition to the catwalk for this year, incorporated into both traditional tailored styles with a twist (think big shoulders and exaggerated shapes) and soft, draped styles that stop the look from being old-fashioned.

A whole host of huge designers such as Calvin Klein, Alexander Wang, The Row, Adam Lippes, Marc Jacobs and Gabriela Hearst have all sent Boss Girl knits and imaginative use of knitwear textures and layering down the runways for A/W 18. It’s definitely something that’s set to be big next season and for once it’s a trend that’s really easy to wear.

An easy way to be right on the Boss Girl trend – whilst investing in a versatile, classic piece that never goes out of style - is with pashmina. You can rock the Boss Girl look by wearing your pashmina in different ways or by choosing a pattern or a muted colour that complements your wardrobe. Bonus Boss Girl points if you wear a checked or tweed pattern!

Wearing looser knitted styles, such as pashmina, over tailored clothing and fitted, structured shapes is an amazing way to add texture to an outfit whilst being right on the Boss Girl trend. Layering is a huge part of the Boss Girl trend so don’t be afraid to experiment with different ways to style your pashmina for the perfect look. Alexander Wang and Marc Jacobs both loaded their models up with layers for this autumn/winter 2018 style.

On the Maryam Nassir Zadeh catwalk in February, we even saw knitwear layered underneath other fabrics and coats for an innovative and unusual look. This was paired with knitted headwear – high fashion balaclavas that are a world away from the usual plain ones – that made a really eye catching statement.

Fashion house The Row and Gabriela Hearst mixed shorter, more tailored styles or sheer diaphanous styles with a touch of tweed or a bulkier knitwear piece to create a real juxtaposition between the different fabrics that worked really well.
