Seen on the catwalks of Celine, Gucci, Victoria Beckham, Preen and Hermes, ice cream pastels are big news on the spring/summer 2018 catwalks, undergoing something of a ‘radical renaissance’ according to fashion bible Vogue.
According to high-end retailer Net-a-Porter searches for “pastel” have increased threefold on their site since September.
Ice cream colours speak of summer, holidays and smiles so they’re perfect addition to your summer wardrobe. And what better way to nod to the trend than by incorporating a beautiful, timeless cashmere scarf or pashmina that will last for years to come?
A 100% cashmere scarf is the ideal spring/summer item because you can easily add it to any outfit, for any occasion as well as being lightweight enough to wear in the day whilst keeping you warm at night when the weather cools down – even if you’re not going on holiday, the ever changing weather that loves to keep us on our toes is no match for a trusty pashmina!
Candy colour ice cream pastels are everywhere this season from lemon to lavender, pistachio to strawberry and everything in between. These colours are great to add a little bit of fun into an otherwise neutral outfit, instantly turning the outfit from plain Jane to on-trend, and they’re so easy to wear it takes hardly any effort to fit this trend with a cashmere scarf.
Vogue recommends wearing your pastels with a twist – pairing unusual styles together, mixing different textures and fabrics together or just adding a hint of pastel to an outfit – which we love! Again, a pashmina is perfect for this look as it’s so versatile and you can add it to your outfit in different ways – as a scarf, a headscarf, hanging from your bag, as a sarong, tied in different ways – and it can add texture to an outfit in a way that’s far more interesting.
Keep your accessories minimal with a pastel look to avoid being transported back to the 1950’s and try to avoid being too matchy-matchy to keep memories of powder blue twinsets firmly back in the fashion history books. This spring/summer pastel look works best with sharp tailoring and subversive, contrasting fabrics like viscose and patent to avoid looking prim.
Another way to try pastels out is by incorporating them into your workwear this spring/summer, with navy, grey and black being binned in the workplace in favour of seasonal sugary tones. A beautiful cashmere scarf is the perfect way to do this, given their versatility and subtlety whilst still maintaining a professional, classic look.
